...Hollowform.

After an earlier post, which prompted a discussion of what comprised a hollowform, and whether or not I'd turned one...

... I though I'd better have a go at something with a small entry/hollowing hole. So I made some bent/angled tools from old screwdrivers and found this inside an bit of spalted beech.

It's 155mm (6") diameter, 55mm (2¼") high with a 23mm (7/8") entry hole, it is hollowed to a 6mm (¼") general wall thickness and about 12mm (½") thick at the rim, as I could not quite get a tool in there.

The inside is not perfectly smooth as I cannot work out how to get abrasive paper in there!

Comments & Critiques as always please and thanks for looking.

Paul,

I've come in for the day but I'll pile them up tomorrow and take a few pic's, okay?

thanks, I can't afford hollowing tools at the moment so homemade will be the way for me.

Looks good to me & a lovely piece of timber.

Hollow form always sounds a little pretentious to me, just my 2p worth.

Looks good to me, love the spalting.

Hollow forms are forms that are hollow as opposed to solid. Form is simply a shape. The size of the hole is irrelevant.

Thank you gents.

This really was an interesting experience to turn, normally I'd manage to go through the wall (I have many times).

Thankfully it was made easier by the opportunity of looking at a couple of hollow-forms George has made and the surrounding discussion of how he does them and what is acceptable.

Looking at posted photographs here in the forum are inspiring but actually getting you 'hands on' some of them and understanding the processes involved make a huge difference.

I'll have a go at several more before attempting anything fancy like an entrance lip, so your fluted forms are quite safe for a long time to come Hughie.

George, looking forward to it, just wish it was not so far into the future. I can be impatient...
