Medronho Egg Cup

Never made one before (can tell cant you!)

Was turning a few pendants today from Medronho and fancied doing something a little different for a change.

Yes it's 'chunky' but it does show the wood colouring nicely!

Eggcups do need to do one thing - hold the egg snugly.

For that you either need an egg (Hard boiled!) or you need a template of an egg shape to try in the cup section as you turn it.

There are various ways to create a template, here's the one I worked out.

Take 1 egg of standard size.

Get a piece of plain paper, a tea-strainer or very fine sieve, some flour and a pencil.

Put the egg on the paper, the flour in the tea-strainer and tap it gently over the egg.

Some flour will settle on the egg, that that misses will form the outline shape of the egg on the paper. Carefully remove the egg and draw around the flour outline.

Now glue the paper to a bit of plywood or some-such and cut out to your pencil line - et viola - an egg shaped template.

You don't have to cut out the whole egg shape, I just have the fat end to just under half way up the egg, of course I'm a Lilliputian if you're a Blefuscuian you'll need to make your template of the pointy end!

No, she makes me do it in the garage and even bought me my own 'tea-strainer!'

 :)  ...   :D ...   ;D ...   :'( ...  then has she not found you'd been in the flour ...  That's a very good tip for the template.

Cheers

Well done Arcos the best way to learn is by doing and looks a good effort for a first to me.
I love your ingenuity dr4g0nfly, it sounds much more fun than the profile gauge I would use and what a treat to be able to actually eat the egg from the fruits of your labour.
