Spalted Silver Birch bowl

A very good friend gave me a Silver Birch log and this is what I found when I split it for Silver birch it is very stable 8 1/2" x 2 1/2" and a 1/4" thick with an oil finish now the wife wants another 4 for Christmas Oh well

Sorry Woody, I really don't like the bowl shape.

The wood is a different matter though, I'm currently working through a couple of large spalted Paper Birch logs and yes it is a joy to work.

I`d have liked it more if it were a little deeper, but then you can only work with what you`ve got.

That said it is a lovely looking piece of timber, I only hope the huge silver birch I cut down last winter gives up such striking pieces.
