20" turkey platter
« on: December 13, 2012, 07:06:52 PM »
I won a 21" x 41" x 2 1/2" beech board on ebay for £25 so I made a turkey platter for our son and his wife to go on the Christmas dinner table you never know I may get my dinner on it LOL it ended up being 20" x 1 1/2" I had to change my original design because there was a rotten bit 1 1/2" in from the edge but I'm happy with the finished item and they love it

The under side is much the same as the trio of platters

I included a photo of me turning it just so you can see how handsome I am when turning  LOL

Wow ...  Woody, that's some platter, it a beauty, should you get to fill it, don't think you'll make it to the lathe for a day or 2 ..

Cheers   David

That will take pride of place on their table for many years to come.

The only ting I'm surprised about is for the size of the board the grain pattern is so open. You'd have though it would of been nearer the pith so more quartersawn grain at the outer edges. That must have been one 'Big' tree', luck you.
