Anybody home.

I finally worked out how to post a photo on this new site.  This is a replication of a piece I made when my hobby was ceramics.  It is turnedand carved from one piece of Camphor Laurel and is 6" x 61/2"high.  The hollow form is textured and burnt and the frog was coloured with acrylics. Critiques welcome.

Hi Gwilym, good to see you back here again.
I like this very much and am intrigued as to how you made it. Was the frog at the chuck mounting point when it was turned?
Regards
John

I love it! I do have a soft spot for frogs and combined with a hollowform it's perfect.

Good to see you back, Gwilym.

John, the piece of timber was mounted in the lathe as for turning a normal hollow form. the sphere was turned with excess wood on the diameter and hollowed. This excess wood was then removed using my router set up to leave the wood required to carve the frog. I've attached a couple of photos which I hope explains this.

Hi Gwylim,

It's one beautiful piece, such detail and work, truly one real frog, I'm sure to look sometime an he'd have hopped it.
Real cool.

Hi Gwylim,

I like the concept and the carving is very detailed, for me the frog is not a true colour its to grren if you get my meaning, it need toning down or some other marking adding.

Cheers Maertin.
