Old balls - new use
« on: August 19, 2024, 09:20:50 AM »
Over the last few years I have managed to buy some old lawn green bowls balls and have taken to turning them into various boxes. This is the latest from a ball which was made pre-WW2. The 'clumpy' finial made from slow growing birch is deliberate after a potential buyer of a previous ball disliked the delicate nature of the finial. The lid is internal and has a god 'pop'!.

Did you find a strange, almost... but not quite...unpleasant smell when you cut into the timber?

Hi Brian. Sorry about late reply - holidays! The woods certainly do have a smell which is somewhat counteracted by dust extraction(essential) as well as a powered respirator!
