Woodcut bowl saver Max3 - require dimensions of missing part
« on: March 16, 2024, 05:02:32 PM »
Hello,

I have aquired a Woodcut bowl saver Max3, but the black nylon that’s inboard of the largest blade is missing. Would it be possible for someone who has one to measure, small diameter (top/bottom) and the larger diameter at the middle, along with the height.

Thanks very much

If you mean the bit in the photo, it's 43mm long, 29mm diameter in the centre and 27mm diameter at each end.

Lumsdep,Paul's photo  looks like it was 3d printed, so you might be able to get one made for you.

I think it is just a nylon guide possibly bulged at the centre by being squeezed by the retaining bolt?

Turn one using your lathe.

My plan is to get a piece of nylon or hdpe and turn it on my lathe. Probably make a test one out of wood first.

Another quick question about the same nylon piece. When everything is bolted down is it still free to turn?

Yes it turns relatively freely and isn't so tight it is bulging, it is made that shape.

Lumsdep,
Do you have a piece of nylon to use?  I may have a piece about 31mm dia at the length you need, or even a piece of ptfe.
Let me know although I won’t be able to send anything until next week.

I doubt it. It’s a simple turning job. Hard to tell but it could be Acetal or Nylon? If I were making a replacement I’d use Ertalyte TX or perhaps one of the lubricated Nylons like Nyloil or Ertalon.
