i never realised that it was a myth that needed dispelling?

most carbides are designed as scrapers as i believe his maybe? (i may be wrong) but in that video he is bevel rubbing.

you can bevel rub with both carbides and traditional tools, and you can scrape with both too.

The biggest problem with this type of discussion is that traditional terminology is, in my view, unhelpful and, factually incorrect. If we look closely enough I think it becomes fairly obvious that a properly sharpened 'scraper' cuts very efficiently whereas a blunt 'cutting tool' scrapes.
Just use the best tool for your purposes and let it go at that would be my advice.

that statement is correct. in general most carbides are meant to be used in a scraping fashion.
however if the tool allows it they can quite easily be used with a bevel in contact to slice rather than scrape as that fella demonstrates...
