Record power DML24 tailstock

morning all
I have having difficulty with my record power tailstsock. When using live centres the tailstock "wheel" backs off allowing the live centre to disengae from the work piece. Is there an easy fix? is it possible to upgrade with a better tailstock that dosnt use a 3/4 bolt to secure it?

If it’s a tailstock like this you are supposed to lock the quill with the star knob at the back.
