Draper AWL40 combination chuck
« on: September 28, 2021, 08:53:46 AM »
Does anyone have instructions for assembly and use of this chuck?
I’d appreciate a scan/photographs

Didn't even know Draper did a woodturning chuck, there is a good chance it is just a badged generic chuck, if you can post a picture of it someone may recognise it under a different label and have info on it under that name.
TT, AKA Pete, but that name is taken :-)

Ah, they did.
You may be right that it was made by A N Other,
It has 3 part jaws, not the now usual 4
Any ideas?

Stormin,
Have you called Draper? They may have what you are looking for in their library. Their website has all the contact numbers

3 part jaw chucks are usually for metal lathes not wood?

As mentioned earlier, a picture may help. It does sound like a metal lathe chuck though.

I have spoken to Draper. They say it is one of theirs and are trying to find instructions as it’s not on their electronic system.

I don’t have it anymore, having passed on the lathe and chuck to a friend’s son
I’ll try to get a photo of the components and post it

Thanks for posting that. It looks like one of several chucks from years ago when some turners were trying to reinvent the wheel rather than adapt perfectly good existing products. I think most of them have ended up in the bin!  :)
