Myford ML 8 tool rest and banjo
« on: November 30, 2021, 05:27:34 PM »
Hi Folks, I am with the Loughborough Men’s Shed and we have been donated a myford ml8 lathe which I am getting back into action. The banjo and tool rest that came with are not myford as they don’t fit and are a different colour paint so not for that machine.
Does anyone have one they would like to part with

Which parts do you have? The toolpost itself is of no consequence as long as it fits the banjo you’re using.

Thanks for replying Bill, You are right about the post, but the banjo doesn’t fit the carrier without a lot of modifications and the socket that the tool rest goes into has not ever had a locking device as there is no drilled and tapped hole, yes I could do both of those myself but would prefer to get authentic parts if I can.
That seems to be the only parts missing ..... so far

I think you may be lucky to get an original spare banjo. Luckily though it sounds like you have the mounting. If the banjo you have is blue or green perhaps it’s an old Record Power one someone intended to modify to fit? It might be possible if you know anyone with a milling machine? Actually looking at the picture you may just need a new top nut? Good luck with your quest.

There is a Banjo on ebay at the moment for a stupid price  MyFord ML8 Banjo I have a complete ML8 so don't want to break it up but if I sold all the parts at these prices I could get a brand new top of the range lathe.

People break Myfords down and sell the bits for more than the complete lathe is worth.

£60 split between the men in the men shed and a free lathe sounds like a bargain
