extraction hplv or not ?
« on: February 17, 2021, 06:53:01 AM »
Morning all, I'm sure it's been asked many times, but if anyone wants to assist, I need an extractor for lathe only.
I see the difference between hplv and lphv but which to get for lathe use.
I am edging towards high volume but it seems the filtration is not good enough (5 microns).
Any advice ?

Cheers

Buy the best filtering , You only have 2 lungs and replacments are very hard to come by

Something like this would fit the hflp bill, 1 micron filter if close to the lathe then noise can be a problem and I have not heard on so this is not an actual recommendation. https://www.charnwood.net/products/product/p2hp-single-bag-dust-extractor-with-cartridge-filter-package-w691cf/category_pathway-2

One hplf I have heard and with the hose based "silencer" on the exhaust it is fairly quiet is https://www.recordpower.co.uk/product/55l-2000w-medium-extractor-4-inlet

A mask or better still a respirator such as https://www.yandles.co.uk/jsp-powercap-active-ip-powered-respirator-impact-protection/p25489 which can be worn all day and gives impact protection too is still essential when sanding.

Truth is we have all struggled to find a good extraction / filtration system that works with the lathe, I have seen many variations, The nirvana of good cleaning and low noise seems impossible.

I have yet to try, but really would like https://www.technologysupplies.co.uk/harvey-g700-gyroair-dust-processor.html seems to be a solution to many of the issues, but high price tag on a guess!
