Upcycling.
« on: December 29, 2020, 07:59:22 PM »
Don't know how many others on here do this.
We are desperately in need of a display cabinet for all the odds and sods that we seem to collect, many of them quite fragile, glass, ceramics etc. Picked this up cheap (what else) and have a plan so will be hopefully making it into something a tad better and different. There will be a bit of turning involved. More to be revealed later....oif it works LOL. It'll be a colaboration though I have got all the hard work to do befpre her ladyship can have a play LOL.

Excellent idea Pete, we have a little shop here in Newport, S.Wales called "The Umbrella Project" they don't have a website but do have some pictures of what they do on the internet. Their main focus is via FaceBook, you probably don't need ideas but for others it may be worth a look. Happy New Year Pete & Mo  --  Julian

Stripped and primed ready fpr the next stage. Masking tape was all scaggy and breaking up so used 'Fragile' packing tape instead. Does same job and a lot easier to handle.

Handles ( that's the wood turning part LOL) made and added temporarily to fit. Doors temprsrily put back to make sure those handles are inline  Lots of final touching up and tweaking then over to Mo for her part.

That's my part played. All japanned and fitted back together. Now it's up to Mo to make it look special. Try and bget some better pictures when it is completed and in the house in a better light.

Looking good! Any lighter-toned objects put inside that are really going to stand out.

All done bar getting some LED lights sorted for it. Reasonably pleased though If it was for sale I would probably have spent a lot more time on it. Mo cleaned the glass so getting a decent photo without loads of reflections is impossible but here.ares a few to get the idea of it finished. Clever Mo positioned gthe bird so it was on the top shelf and it looks like it is loking over water LOL

Thank you Colin. It's the sort of thing we would both love to do more of but problem is space to work in. Both gpot heads full i=of ideas but nowhere to put them into practice. We love upcycling old tired furniture as long as it is different and not the usual shabby chic that you see so often.
