Hard waxy wood pens
« on: December 10, 2020, 11:38:18 AM »
A short note that may be of interest.  Having mixed experience with my usual acrylic (superglue) pen coatings and having some waxy hardwood pieces available I tried making uncoated pens with these.  The two pens are mostly of Tambootie/Sandalwood and lignum vitae (cut across the grain) respectively (top/uncapped is lignum).  Both have African blackwood highlights (ring and end stud on the caps), also uncoated.  Both polish pretty well with ultrafine abrasive pads (as per acrylic) leaving a wax-finish-like appearance that seems pretty resistant to marking.  Both pens scent appropriately for the woods though this may fade of course.  The cross-grain lignum pen has grain that reflects the grain nicely as though coated (but hard to photograph). Perhaps many of you have done this lots of times but I am quite pleased with the results!

seventhdevil - a great offer although I still have some of the ?paraguay lignum, which is dense and meets my current needs.
