wood identification
« on: October 23, 2020, 07:01:39 PM »
Hi, hope someone can help in identifying the wood in the attached picture. I was pulled out of a river in Wales some 15 years ago.

No one will be able to identify it from a piece of washed out root.
You will need to cut it across the grain and sand fairly fine, then take a good focus close up.

The medullary rays become quite pronounced after being in the river.

That is interesting, I read the marks as compression timber at the base of the bole of the tree. I think its treewood.  ;)
If I had a better lathe, I would be able to show my ineptitude more effectively.
