Segmented Zebrano box
« on: August 31, 2020, 11:46:19 AM »
This has been made for a customer who gives them to her nieces on their wedding day.I suppose it is a trinket box. I segmented Zebrano with Maple and a dyed veneer for highlights. The top and bottom are made in African Blackwood that has been textured and gilded.

I spotted this on facebook....quite a piece and must have a good few hours of work invested in it.
Nice one John.

I like this. A great job on the segmenting that is where many new turners fall down on making a piece like this(I know you are not a new turner)

Thanks for the comments guys. One of the problems I discovered when making these is not all dyed veneers behave the same. Some I discovered can actually split down the centre, when this happens on the lathe turning suddenly gets very exciting. The joints have to be accurate but I have made a fine adjuster to fit on my guillotine so that makes life easier. It is about 90mm diameter.
