Green beech canker
« on: July 30, 2020, 03:40:56 PM »
I bought a load of green beech, cut it down to usable sections and found I had a canker left over. It was never going to be able to be turned into something smooth so I turned it into something different.

It stands about 6" high, spirit stained green and them I've gilded the natural edge to create an point of interest. It also developed crack so taking a leaf out of Les's book, I drilled and stapled it.

C & C as you will, thanks for looking

Hi Bryan,
I like this one, keeping it in one piece with a split that length must have been a challenge especially when doing the inside.

I rather like that....it has a good, earthy look to it....good stapling, too!
Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

Ken, thank you.

Turning the inside I used the old trick of wrapping the outside in cling film and gaffa tape to hold it together.

Les,

Thank you, I don't know why but I still have not quite found the elegance of your stapling, I'm sure it's a mathematical (even if you don't do it deliberately) relationship you use. But I'll keep working on it.

Derek,

yes, I thinned the gree quite a bit as the wood had colour and a little early spalting which I thought would be good to keep visible.
