limed/stained oak bowl

This is an attempt to adapt the technique used before for candlesticks to a bowl.  The oak was selected to be the opposite of the usual quarter-sawn (ie transverse rather than radial) to maximise the effect.  The sanded bowl is stained and then finished with 'liming wax' that fills in the grain with white. The black stain inevitably rubs off a bit and there are some cracks in the wood but the overall effect is interesting.

It's a winner....you've done a cracking job there, especially in keeping the rim so well defined against the black stain, and the cracks don't matterone little bit.

Nice form, beautiful finish which is accentuated by the crisp rim.  I like it :)

This give new life to such a simple shape. But simple shapes are not always the easiest to pull off well.
