Recommendations?
« on: July 06, 2020, 12:54:51 AM »
I'm in the market for a new rotary tool as I managed to burn out my last one! I have a Foredom with flexi shaft etc. but for quick jobs, I don't bother with that and just use a simple rotary tool. Any recommendations or suggestions?

My only real experience has been of Proxxon, which have always served me well....but beware the hair-trigger!
Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

I have the one from Wood art(John Woods) can't fault it. Much easier to handle than ones with a flexi drive in my opinion. Also far less vibration.

I’ve been using one of the £9.95 ones from Lidl for a few years and it’s still working ok.

I had a Lidl one too but burnt it out!

I'm leaning towards a battery powered tool because wherever I want to use one of these, it's always a faff to find a plug or get an extension lead!

I suppose it depends on what you want to do with it but most battery powered tools are going to be limited in speed and torque. Dremel do the battery ones as no doubt you know?

The battery tools are generally the same speed range as the mains powered tools. Power will depend on battery voltage and capacity but these days a good Li-ion battery tool is as good as a mains powered equivalent. For more serious stuff I already have the Foredom and air powered die grinder but those are less convenient to use.

I talked myself in to buying the Dremel 8220 with two batteries. Just waiting for it to be delivered...
