New idea (to us)
« on: June 12, 2020, 03:29:42 PM »
I saw a bowl that Martin Saban-Smith had done with some pyro on it that caught my eye. Seemed familiar but didn't know what it was. Called zentangles it appealed to both Mo and I so had a go. Reminds me of doodles I used to do when I was a kid. Thanks for the idea Martin.

I've been watching this developing slowly on social media, you've done an amazing job of it and hats off to you and Mo; it must have been quite tricky coming up with so many different patterns.

I think this looks great. Beautifully decorated - it must have taken quite a while to 'doodle'!

Love the variety and 'fun' of this way of decorating. Lovely.
Cheers

Thanks for teh replies and comments. For us one big advantage of this lockdown is that we have more than enough stock for when we get back to shows and so we have time to try new things and experiment with ideas. Never had time to try texturing and this sort of pyro work. Had a quick go at pierced work as well but that will take a lot more practice to make anythig worthwhile LOl

    Hi Mo & Pete,
What a fantastic piece of work how long did the pyro take I think it is most unusual but nothing like doodles
I am sure that will be sold very soon.
                                                         Regards John

Nicely done. I may try doing something similar but on a smaller scale so it only takes me a couple of days to do!  ;D

It's one of those things, like texturing, that once you start you get caught up in it and keep going until it's finished. If you google 'zentangles' there are literally hundreds of designs and ideas that you can adapt and change to suit yourself.

I have had a look online for Zentangles and there are indeed lots of patterns out there. Some of them need quite delicate strokes with the Pyrography tool so I suspect I’ll need to make a couple of new tips.

Mo uses razer tips? Joh Wood sells them. She does make some byt the scalpel ones (my name for them) are so fine it's difficult to make them yourself

Yes it’s the scalpel type I’ll have a go at making. I think they call them Skew tips?

]Yes they're the ones. We tried flattenning and sharpening to get the edge but they are so fine it proved not worth the effort.

I've commented elsewhere on this but 2 more things to add.

Mo's work, especially in the images before you click on them to full size, look like pierced work, and

To me, especially the black line looks like a simple game called Entanglement - https://entanglement.gopherwoodstudios.com/en-GB-index.html
