Oriental themed hollow form
« on: June 02, 2020, 10:37:40 PM »
Haven't posted anything for a while even though got few projects finished off during lockdown.

This hollow form got finished off today.

Wet turned kiln dried and returned oak about 6¾" by 5" high textured and ebonised with good old rusty nails and cider vinegar soup, distressed gold leaf flowers finished with black wax with gold leaf and twig finial.

All comments welcomed

Looks good. Like the texturing and the embellishments.

I really like that. The form is good and the colour/texture are as well, so it seems churlish to criticise, but for the sake of authenticity the blossom petals could have been rounded. The cherry blossom is a very common and meaningful component of oriental (Japanese) art, so a very minor change could have made it look much more authentic.

Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

I works for me and although I don't disagree with Les, the distressed gilding of the flowers give it a little something beyond pure oriental appearance.

Thanks for the positive feed back guys.

Les never had a second thought about cherry blossom being more authentic. Besides I basically copied a piece that Mark Sanger made a fews years ago and made it my own apart from the shape of the flowers😁

Very nice.

I must confess did not realize about the petal shape as Les pointed out, I agree with Bryans comment about the distressed gilding on the petals
