Tipping Clock
« on: February 29, 2020, 12:00:24 PM »
A way to use two watch-sized clocks that I was given a while ago. The specification was for a self-righting clock with two opposite faces - this one is not fully self-righting but rocks nicely and self-rights from around 45 degrees!

Boxwood about 90mm high. The central 35mm hole is tricky, mainly because the teardrop shape is hard to hold. I ended up using a wooden vice and a handheld power drill, which worked but accounts for the slight asymmetry.  The 'eye' shapes to get flat seatings for the clocks are cut with a sacrificial pine jam chuck rod in the 35mm hole - see picture.  The piece was reversed for the opposite hole (the rod chuck is slightly tapered). Then cut with a spindle gouge in drag mode and sanded with foam-backed sandpaper.

My question is, Why?

Is there a place where you need a self righting clock? or is it just for fun?

Really just for fun - but why not?!  And I suppose in the middle of the night a clock by the bed is easy to upset.
