yew natural edge bowl.
« on: November 04, 2019, 10:27:15 PM »
doing a demo yesterday at a local club I was turning this yew bowl. but decided that it was getting to dangerous to continue so went for a different item. I got the chance to finish the yew bowl tonight so here is the finished bowl. the bowl is 8x4 1/2" in size and finished with Hampshire sheen wax. all comments welcome.

the bowl itself is a little too thick for my liking.
If it were mine I would also like to try bridging the gap in the rim with something... perhaps plaited string, garden wire, leather thong or, of course, another piece of wood of some description.

I like a natural edged bowl but I agree for the size of the bowl the wall thickness looks out of place maybe if it was a larger bowl it would be OK. Still turning looks good as well as the finish

As others have said, the wall thickness gives it a rather heavy look....one other thing, in the last picture there's a cluster of torn fibres on the natural edge that could have been removed with a little llight hand-sanding before the finish was applied.

Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.
