What is it
« on: August 24, 2019, 01:23:51 PM »
I got some burrs recently, I think the guy said they are beech burrs but I'm not 100% sure.  They've been in my boot for a week so today took them out so I can seal the ends while I think of which way to split them and I noticed on one of the burrs there is a thick white liquid seeping out.  It's kind of sticky and looks like PVA glue but it's come out of the wood.  Anyone know what it is? I've attached a couple of photos.

Also what is happening with the last one?  It looks like there are 3 piths.

The three piths suggest this was probably near the top of the trunk where it split into three branches.

The white stuff is possibly from the fungus which appears to have made it's home in the burr!
