Taking a punt
« on: July 23, 2019, 07:00:35 PM »
I took a punt on a couple of auction lots and bid on the internet for them.
 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
How about this.....
sycamore 13 1/2 x 2 1/2
oak 12 x 1
      12 x 2
      13 x 1
      14 x 1
 elm 13 x 2 1/2 (spalted burr)
        13 1/2 x 2
beech 11 x 2 1/2 (spalted)
          13 x 3 (spalted)
ash 8 x 2
      9 x 2
mahogany 6 x 1
                6 x 1
                12 x 1

...all 14 pieces for £25. I smell a profit!  ;D

...and that was just the first lot....the second lot had a big block of camphorwood, a 2x2 of zebrano, a small lump of Australian burr, an elm burr and a load of banksia nuts.

That's a good price for that set so long as it's not £50 for delivery. Wood is expensive, and precious it's not like it grows on trees :)

Hope it all lives up to the images. Love camphor wood personally, not had much of it but the workshop smelled great for weeks after LOL.

...that pile is around the house in more ways than one....there's a pile of logs under the trees on the lawn out the front, there's 2 pallet loads on the drive, a pile in store under the canopy to the side of the house and then there's my log sheds with piles of logs in the back garden. Yes....they've been used around the house!  ;D

Good luck with the camphorwood, please see my previous post on that stuff!...
...any chance of a link to that, or an approximate date. I've tried a search for camphorwood and for camphor wood, but it's a nil-response.

good score les. i love buying off of ebay for exactly that reason.

consists of padauk, muninga and mostly african mahogany.

Les, it is the one Pete linked to, so I'll not add the link again.

Though the finished platter is shown here http://www.awgb.co.uk/awgbforum/index.php/topic,5775.0.html
