Record 4 jaw chuck
« on: July 12, 2019, 08:36:49 AM »
I have a record 4 jaw chuck.
Cleaned it all but when I went to re-assemble there was no numbers on the chuck body to match up the jaws .
There is only a small stug in one of the jaw recesses ,so not sure of exact sequence.

assuming you're talking about a scroll chuck then there will only one sequence that works when re assembled so i'd just keep going till you get it right.

Some chucks don't have numbers bjut dots instead. Look for some other marks like that?

It does not matter where you fit jaw number one as long as you fit the remaining jaws in their number sequence going clockwise.

If you lay your jaws out like I have and look at the first tooth they should move up the scroll(circled on each jaw) this will give the order of the jaws.
Maybe someone can explain better than I have but hopefully you get the idea

Hi Andy,  Derek is absolutely right. If you have the pointy end of the scroll towards you; you will see that the first tooth will be closest to the point on jaw-1 and the first tooth will be farthest from the point on jaw-4 --  Julian
