I made this drilling post and 5 different sized bushes to fit my small DML305-VS lathe useful when making bandstand clocks and ornate boxes the handy thing about making your own is you can make whatever size bushes you may need

Well you could, if you had a metal working lathe - unfortunately I don't. But nice work all the same.

I guess you could make one from some hard close grained timber.

Hi Dave I made them out of brass you can turn it on a wood lathe with a scrapper but it dose take a while and you have to keep sharpening your tools or you could use Lignum Vitae

I think this is a great idea, and would save a lot of money as drilling jigs are expensive, and not something you will use all the time.

Why not just make one from a spindle, drill the hole where you want it, do the job and then if need be bin it?

I dont have a metal turning lathe but I know someone who does odd jobs for beer tokens and he made me this drilling guide very handy.

I'm going to have a go at this in wood.  As Dave says, can always throw it away afterwards.  I'll take some photos en route.

Don't hold your breath though, my woody plans always get overtaken by events!

I made my own drilling attachment out of 1" bar,I just drilled a series of holes 1-10mm about 16mm below each other and just raise it or lower it in the banjo to the diameter hole needed for the job in hand,regards,
