Tree in garden
« on: March 23, 2018, 07:02:14 PM »
I am about to take down a few trees in the garden one is a cherry which is not in the best of health another is an ornamental cherry and is in the middle of the area which is going to be a veg patch and the third I am not sure about.
So my question is can anyone identify this mystery tree. First, a couple of pictures of the bark and second of younger growth which as can be seen is yellow in colour.

I cannot be certain, I'd need to see leaves, but the diamond pattern on the barks says to me American Black Walnut.

Can you remember the leaves, something like Ash but a little bigger?

We have several ABWs growing around here, they are not as uncommon as you'd think and certainly available from some garden centres.

I'm with George.....it looks remarkably like willow and there is a variant which has yellow stems....it's commonly known as flame willow and is available with either red or yellow stems. The attached picture is of flame willow bark.

Thank you everyone it seems that the majority of people that have commented on here and other sites say it is a willow.

Even though it has been in the garden for some time I can't honestly remember the leaf shape.

I don't care what you call it Les it is coming out ;D

I am surrounded by what ever that tree is, they are very fast growing and a bu88er to kill off as they seem to re root, however I do use some of the branches for flower heads, apart from that they are useless for turning - or anything else for that matter.
