Myford Mystro Headstock Bearings
« on: May 08, 2018, 05:17:09 PM »
Having found and bought a Myford Mystro, I have diligently just lubricated the headstock bearings as I have used it for around 10 hours. Wish I hadn't! The bearings are now making horrible noises. I hope that it's just the type of grease I have used - Comma high temp bearing grease - but suppose I could have just revealed a problem in the bearings. Has anyone changed the bearings on one of these?
The bearings are still listed on the Myford spares web site under their old part numbers, but apparently are the same as used in the ML10.
If I can find out the type number - usually on the bearing flange - I can obtain them a lot cheaper than the £20 each that Myford demand.
ANY TAKERS?

Any assistance gratefully received.

Hi Paul.

Maintenance instructions for my 1996 Mystro ...  I've used the Castrol LM grease, two/three pumps as lathe is running, can still make the taper roller bearing rumble first off.. Not as yet had to make any major repairs, belt could need a replacement, not been used for a couple of years now!!  Hope this is a help in the right direction.
