Milk or not
« on: February 26, 2018, 04:31:20 PM »
Totally off topic now, just come in from one of the coldest days in the workshop I have ever know (this year at least) and made a cup of hot Bovril. Now the question is do you drink your hot Bovril with milk or not?

You see this is a throwback to my childhood. In the winter we would have Bovril to drink if we had been out in the snow (the first time I can recall is the winter of '62) but mother would put a drop of milk in the kid's drinks. I only thought about it today because of the cold weather, I still have a mug of Bovril on cold days and I still have a drop of milk in it, strange what you think of when the cold reaches your brain!!

Definitely no milk, I can just about remember the winter of 62. The snow was deeper that I was at the time, we used to go swimming in school and a cup of Bovril afterwards. I can't imagine what it would have been like with milk in it :( oh and a packet of OXO Chipmunk crisps :)

My life is so full at the moment that once Masterchef had finished last night I forced myself to research Bovril, I will not bore you with all the details here but the Royal Navy used to serve it during the war with a tot od sherry in it. Now that I will have to try........one day.

Pete, Marmite is the nectar of the Gods (along with Yorkshire tea and Thatchers Gold) and Marmite chocolate is on ration along with Toblerone!   ;D

We'll have to agree to differ on those I'm afraid lol. Can't even stand the smell of marmite, don't drink tea at all and the only  cider I like is the decent farmhouse ciders.

I used to have a little drop of whisky on mine. And as for Marmite, oh yes please! Lashings of it on freshly toasted crumpets.
