Splits and cracks, but not a leg in sight!
« on: February 16, 2018, 02:30:47 PM »
Having got three-legged bowls out of my system (for now) I decided to make some stock for the shop. I hadn't played with my blocks of oak burr for a while, so this one came out of the workshop this morning. It was a bit scary at times, so lots of ca adhesive went into a few of the cracks and it turned out well in the end.
Cut out of a 6" cube.
C&C always welcome...Les

Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

Absolutely awesome work Les. Nothing I don't like about it.

I doubt it will stay in your shop for long. What price would you put on it?

As i stated elsewhere.

Lovely piece Les very much along the lines of a Maui Koa calabash. Great character in the wood and well suited to the shape

.....that's a question we don't get asked very often on this forum, however, I guess that it'll be around £70. Not a great deal of money, but just remember that it's quite small, having come out of a 6" cube.

You also have a very nice piece of wood there Les and, as always, beautifully turned. I love the character that wood like this with cracks, holes, occluded bark and other "defects" gives to our work.

What an ugly bit of wood Les, I'm glad that you turned it to bring the true beauty of the wood out.  ;D Les

lovely piece of work  Les, i would of love to see a picture of the lump of wood before you started,  is i just me or do other turners get towards the end of a piece of work and wish they had taken a before and after photo, I have done it again today,
again well done Les, sometimes the ugly bits of wood hide inner beauty

Les,

it looks great but I don't think it will hold water!

You've made this shape you own, and do it so well, great work.

Gorgeous. While it is an attractive piece of wood, the execution of the simple elegant form is what really sells this. Great work
