I've gone back to trying to set resin with wood, I want to make some more of these

Great, you got it sanded! Love the colour and the slight milkiness of the resin because it gives a bit of mystery to the depth of the "water", which perfectly suits its title.  Using the piece of burr as a stand works well, but at the angle you've photographed it, the sphere looks unstable. I've no doubt that it is stable, but I feel it might have looked even better than it does were the sphere to be closer to the centre of the base. That's a very minor point in what is a great piece of work.

The base was just so I could take the picture. I'm thinking to turn a Horse Chestnut burr ring for it to sit on.

Personally I would leave it on the base as is. Gives a great contrast with the texture and finish of the globe.

I love these Ed, just getting the gear together to have a go at resin casting myself, I was inspired by the work of Heath KNUCKLES, having had a play I really appreciate the work that this has taken to get a good result.

   Great Finish Ed...... Been over it blown up and can't find any faults  ... the wood blends very well with the blue.
   In the end the base you choose will define it.

          I like this one very much it is fabulous I wouldn't change anything with regard to the light reflections invest a few quid in a light tent from Amazon.

A little poem that suits this piece methinks..............


If the Earth were only a few inches in diameter, floating a few feet above a field somewhere, people would come from everywhere to marvel at it. People would walk around it, marvelling at its big pools of water, its little pools and the water flowing between the pools. People would marvel at the bumps on it, and the holes in it, and they would marvel at the very thin layer of gas surrounding it and the water suspended in the gas. The people would marvel at all the creatures walking around the surface of the ball, and at the creatures in the water. The people would declare it sacred because it was the only one, and they would protect it so that it would not be hurt.
The ball would be the greatest wonder known, and people would come to pray to it, to be healed, to gain knowledge, to know beauty and to wonder how it could be. People would love it, and defend it with their lives because they would somehow know that their lives, their own roundness, could be nothing without it.
If only the Earth were a few inches in diameter...
