More work for Mo.
« on: February 09, 2018, 11:18:29 AM »
Mo asked for some pieces other than bowls or platters to work on but I didn't have any suitable wood. Resigned to having to actually buy some I managed to get hold of a log of holly that was dry and made these three hollow forms. They have some knots that should excercise her creative talents but sure she'll come through with something. She's happy with them which is what counts. They are 9"", 7"" and 4"" tall and turned to around 7mm thick. I'll post again as and when she has worked her magic.

Nice forms and I like the middle one best of all. I also like the lip on the tall one....the piece has height, which gives it a bit of impact and the raised neck-ring lifts the profile even higher. Works for me!

Thank you all. The holly was already dry, cut down about ten years ago so, fingers crossed it should be ok. I checked with a meter and it was about 6% so within the normal dryness. Turned thin it might move a little but the shavings coming off weren't the long tagliatelli ones you get with wet holly. I wasn't too sure about the lip on the tallest one  either and left it on the tenon before getting critique from the boss but she liked it so that is good enough for me LOL.

3 nice hollow-forms, but they'll look better when Mo has finished with them.

Hi Pete

Well Mo will be keeping busy with these, looking forward to seeing what she does.

Liking them all but if I were to have to pick just one I'm also drawn to the middle one.

All the best

Ed

The small one is the favourite the lines seem to flow well... But they all leave themselves open to decoration
