Bandsaw blades....
« on: January 15, 2018, 11:01:40 AM »
What do you all do with old bandsaw blades?   I have accumulated quite a few blunt or broken blades and am not sure of the best way to dispose of them.....

Wot he said, just pop them in the wheelie bit, make sure they are not going to spring open and catch poor old dustman across the hand or worse.

I take mine back to Hamilton Beaverstock where I buy them, they are only a few hundred yards up the road from me.  Julian

That is why I break them as to prevent any from accidentally springing open

As long as a piece does not break off when you do it and go in your eye.

I take mine to the local metal recyclers. Get 20p a blade, which goes into my Xmas fund. I know that's a very small amount but then  I know they've gone to be recycled, not to land-fill.

I have scrap metal collectors (rag and bone men) coming around every few weeks, and they have all mine. Malcolm.

Metal recycling. Check the charity shops as some of them collect old metal for that purpose.

I re sharpen mine, not as rich as you lot that can afford to throw them away. Made up a jig to hold them, got a magnifyer to see them with and sharpen them up. I only throw away the ones that break but not all of them, some I grind up to become a profile gauge (note not gouge). works a treat. I sometimes make a story board from them too. I have in the past clamped a load of strips of bandsaw blades together to make a course rasp, works well in an emergency. Necessity is the mother of all invention. I don't throw anything away until there is no use for it.
