Christmas Carousel Pyramid Cup Bearing
« on: January 10, 2018, 11:34:01 AM »
Woodturning Magazine, November 2017.  Colwin Way produced an excellent project on a Christmas Carousel however great difficulty may be experienced in trying to locate the Pyramid Cup Bearing on which the whole piece revolves. It will come as no surprise that they come from Germany but are available via Amazon.  Type into the search, "Christmas pyramid tinkering" and a whole new world will open up.  They can be metal or glass and come in a number of sizes. The item comes in packs of 20, reasonably inexpensive but p&p is not however.  Not sure where 'tinkering' comes from in this instance but maybe something to do with translation?

Looking at them they are made of a variety of materials, including glass.

This begs the question, can they be made by yourself. A piece of Aluminium bar held in a chuck and turned central, then drilled to the depth of the drill bit flutes would appear to be the easiest way to do this.

We use HSS Tools, I turn brass and bronze at need, so ally is not an issue to turn with them.
