Hampshire Sheen
« on: December 31, 2017, 08:55:28 AM »
http://www.hampshiresheen.com/

This product has arrived in Australia and my questions to the Oz site and the UK site left me with not much info . I had asked about durability/longevity etc it was suggested as nobody had complained it was alright.

So to my learned highly experienced peers, I turn to. Gentlemen your thoughts on the range of products good, bad , dunno  etc especially on freshly turned pieces as a final finish

I see it has a good number of outlets across the UK and thats encouraging.

My only comment, so far, is that its overpriced compared to other quality brands.
Mistakes are proof that at least you're trying

Getting a product on shelves isn't hard if you offer good terms, eg 'sale or return' and/or offer good margins.
Availability is also no assurance of quality; eg Ashley Isles tools are very rarely seen in shops, but are of excellent quality. Toolstation junk is everywhere.

Hampshire sheen seems to be a great success driven by effective social media promotion.

It may be a great product that works well, but I can't see any advantage in it over existing products for me.

You hear about turners finishing with various waxes and polishes but some of these turners are unaware that wax is a surface (usually) finish and therefore it needs a foundation of sorts to stop it from being absorbed into the wood. Hence the use of sanding sealer. I would suggest Hughie, after seeing the finishing that you get on your work whatever you are doing is fine so don't change it.
