i was teaching today with a veteran at Phoenix house and this was what i turned along side Martin as it was a 1to1 and able to use the 2nd lathe to explain the technique . this form is 4"high and 3" wide the hollow form on the right is the one Martin completed.. sanded and finished with Yorkshire grit and Hampshire sheen. all comments welcome.

Wider,

you don't say but I'm assuming that the horrible looking bit of wonderfully charismatic wood on top is laid onto the oak as the explanation of the technique you mention.

Recognising that it was only made to show something I'll still add that the second image make the form look like a sphere, which I think looks a better shape than the actual form as seen in the other photos.
Oh Lord, Lead me not into temptation…

...Oh who am I kidding, follow me, I know a shortcut!

the bit on the top is to show that if you have a fault when turning that there is always a way of recovering the form. the hollowing tool came loose and disaster happened. so turned it out and looked for timber to add to the form.
