Ash canker with lots of bark!
« on: October 21, 2017, 03:01:25 PM »
In a batch of storm-fall timber that I cleared earlier this year, there were several branches severely stricken with canker, which is probably why they fell in the first place. This little pot is 15cm high x 12cm diameter and is finished in Renaissance wax. I had planned to take the wall thickness down a bit thinner, but with this much bark and canker present, I settled for 6mm and kept safe.

C&C Always welcome...Les

As usual, nice shape and finish, but I am afraid that's a little too far for my taste. I'm pretty sure, though, that Pete will love it.

Now that I like with all of the inclusions I personally think it adds character to it

Apart from a nicely turned and finished bowl all you have achieved is to show how beautiful nature can make our chosen medium. Well done Les I relly like it.

Having turned only one piece of this amazing Ash many years ago Les ...  I know its like opening a Christmas Present
Mine only had the light colour....... The grain of this piece needs no extras beads coves etc ...... The simple shape you
have chosen shows it at its best. The satin finish you have achieved compliments it really well.
  Kind Regards Tony Di

I once got some small branches like this, just big enough to make what looked like slug eaten mushrooms.

This however is a good size for diseased Ash and creates a stunning effect.
