Spalted Box

Just finished this one today Measures 5 1/2" X 4" from a piece of spalted beech I found in the wood pile, Sometimes I wonder what I do have in there must dig it out and have a look.

It is Walnut I think it is the American Black Walnut certainly has that smell about it

Yes very nice design and execution . The addition of the ring adds another element .

Thank you Andy and Woodspinner. I like to add the band as it also helps to keep the pattern flowing and not produce a stepped effect

Derek,

We've all seen lots of boxes but this one has that little something more about it, okay, it's the shape that works, but it's also the way you've achieved the smooth lines and carried them around the whole box, through the central ring to create a true teardrop shape.

Yes, I do like this a lot.

Thank you Bryan. When I made the first box in this shape I enjoyed the process of making it and also working out the best way round to turn it so as not to keep changing the wood around to many times in the chuck
