Ancient Sycamore

Burnt textured and metal reactive paints have turned this bit of Sycamore in to something old.

6" x 3"

C&C's welcome

This is great, Ed....the texturing is spot-on and doesn't have any of the issues that bugged me with a previous textured piece (Been playing with colour)  that you showed us. The colour and the texture work well together and you've certainly achieved the ancient look.

Like this effect a lot. Very much an old bronze look. The style of the vase suits the finish well for me.

Hi All

Thank you for your comments, it's a little pot I turned sometime ago which I've been play around with, but could never seem to get the colours right. Got some new metal reactive paints and bingo.

John I won't be at Yandles it was a one off coach trip, I'll catch up with you at the seminar  :)

All the best

Ed

Thought I had commented on this Ed maybe some where else but just in case it did get lost in the web somewhere.

I like this just enough of the copper colour showing through to give the appearance of an old piece. The photo makes it look larger than what it actually is

After my last comment I have had the pleasure in seeing this in the flesh and like most things posted it looks so much better in the flesh and the effect really stands out

Ed I keep coming back to this one, I love the shape and the applied finish but not sure of the "hammered copper" effect. I have to say though it is very effective.

Ed, Like the hammered copper texture. How did you do it?

Ed,

that is a great effect, it truly looks like a brass/bronze pot that you've just dug out of a Victorian midden.

I've been trying to find these metal effect paints for some time now, for a friend who does other crafts, could you PM me a link to the website for them please.

Many thanks.

I saw this 'in the flesh' as it were when Ed brought it to a demo recently. Even up close it looks like old weathered copper and its not until you hold it that the warmth of the wood gives it away. Very impressive.
