I'm curious to know what level of protection others use for their lungs when turning / sanding etc.

Hi Paul
My dad died with cancer 23 years ago which started on his tongue, the cause was unknown but I was convinced it was related to some Honduras Mahogany he'd been machining. Hence I saved up and bought a filtered helmet. Can I ask all members please take care!

Regards John

If you aren't prepared to pay for a good respirator apparently these are a work-around used by some.

I tried the Trend air powered respirator but it simply didn't feel comfortable.  I now use the 3M 7500 Series Reusable Half Respirator (which fits well beneath my face shield), with the appropriate PP3 filter.  This is comfortable, easy to put on and seems to be effective when sanding, turning etc.

I had previously used a Trend Airshield mask and had nothing but trouble , Kept coughing like a old man ( Opps I am a old man ) Changed to the Sundstrom and no more dust problems , I picked my one up on ebay for A very good price , they are exspencive new but still a lot cheaper than a new set of lungs

I use the trend half mask ... for me it gives a good seal on the face , the filters can be changed easily and all parts
can be bought separately cheaply .... the main advantage to this is my glasses don't fog up and its so light I don't
  even notice its there.

I use an air shield. I've too many health problems to add any more so splashed out and went the whole hog. Does anyone else still crack themselves up by trying to blow dust and shavings off things only to realise that you are wearing a mask? :D
