  Hi George
I think that the proportion of the clay section is fine and there is no need to change it.
My opinion is that a change to a narrower band would have no overall improvement.
Regards
Ken
Ps. Thanks for the tip about when to use the oven!!

Hello George, I look forward to seeing different colour combinations in the future - I also think the banding is fine as it is.

Very nice, George. It is good to get the grandchildren involved in any type of craft and combining that with your own skills is a bonus. Well done to both of you and keep them coming. Malcolm.

Thank you Malcolm.
Ali and I do a lot of Craft things together but I cant get her turning she is scared of it.
I should take her to Mark Sanger for a day that is better than teaching family

My opinion on this is " Less is more " think the clay is dominant , a norrower band just to compliment would be better proportoned , but its just my oppinion  :D

I always try and get a balance between wood and decoration the idea being that the colour band is sat on top of the wood and the plain band either side of it ties it in with the inner Bowl.
I dont really see how a thinner band would be an improvement but you might be right.
How do you see it the coloured band complimenting the wood or the wood complimenting the coloured band.
I would also be interested in how others see the proportions and whether they work as they are

Regards George

I see the clay complimenting the wooden bowl not the other way round , but as said thats just my opinion

I see the Bowl as a canvas for the differant texturing and colouring that I apply to the rim.
Having said that I think the colouring /texturing have equal value to the wood
Just my opinion of course

George this is a very nice piece and I echo the comments already made here. Correct me if I am wrong but I assume the polymer clay is cast seperate to the bowl , cooked and then glued in place in the recess? Although the effect (and those to come) is very striking, do you think there will be a problem in the future with differential shrinkage? Is there any information about it shrinking or staying the same or sucking in moisture as time goes on? Or am I just worrying about nothing? ::) ::) ::)

Hi John

The clay is put into the Bowl and then cooked in it.
I made sure the Bowl was dry and had been indoors for some time so I dont expect a lot of movement

Its a great looking bowl George, not a clue how the patterns are made with the clay but its very effective, what finish do you use on a piece like this?
All the best
Andy

George,

to me it's reminiscent of things like Glass Paperweights with a French name that means 1000 flowers, a very striking effect, well done to Ali.
