It's a lottery!
« on: April 17, 2015, 07:55:23 PM »
When we first started Burywoodturners nearly five years ago, i applied for a lottery grant to buy video and audio equipment along with a club lathe. We were turned down as we were considered to be an arts group and advised to contact the Arts Council.

I note on many occasions that various wood turning clubs have received a grant from the National Lottery.

Does anyone have any advice on how to apply? I thought I covered all bases last time but apparently not so.

Our club got an award under the awards for all scheme and it was justified on the community benefit and the need for presentation equipment to assist members with hearing difficulties etc.

I did hear that in the run up to the 2012 olympics, grants for anything non-sporting were harder to come by because funds were being diverted to olympic projects so I suggest you just try again and see where it takes you.

Hi Ron,
There are many avenues to try for a grant have a look at these.

In addition to the links provided above I would strongly recommend that you
contact your local authority and or parish/town council, who often have access
to limited amounts of funding for community projects

Thank you for the replies. I did wonder about the Arts Council bit, sounded like a way of getting out of making a grant. As we were very new then maybe we might stand a better chance now, particularly as we have done some charity work and helped another organisation with some turnings. A better sound system would help enormously, especially for me!
