Dust extractors and Pillar Drills
« on: May 13, 2017, 08:26:12 PM »
Hi all...

So any advice on simple Dust Extractors and where best to purchase primarily for Lathe Dust Extraction but also could be linked to other Machines later.

The same applies to finding a pillar drill as both are for a Hobby workshop.

Thanks in advance....

...can you explain the system....I'm guessing that the dust/chip mainly drops into the first bin, with residual dust eventually making it through to the Axminster unit. The only element of that set-up that I'm not clear on is the black unit sitting atop the wheelie-bin.

Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

Hi Kevin, This is my Axminster Pillar Drill. I find it does everything I want it to do and you can get it as a desktop one if you want to. I won this in a magazine competition.  Julian

Julian,

Whatever the answer is it could give you a nasty turn

les, it's a cyclone on top of the wheelie bin and this is simply a cyclone system for people with not much dosh.

the extractor sucks 2000m3 per hour through the cyclone on top of the wheelie bin. any shavings and dust go into the bin and almost nothing gets to the extractor.

after 6-12 months you do get about 2-4" of dust in the bag but that's inevitable i suppose.

the cheapest cyclone is nearly a grand on the axminster option and the most expensive is over £2500 but all mine together only cost £400 (at the time) including the piping and anything else needed to make it work but now it would be about £500.
