Thread adapter for union graduate 1.5" x 6tpi
« on: February 24, 2017, 12:09:39 AM »
I have recently purchased a union graduate lathe & with it came a very nice axminster evolution chuck LH/RH with extra jaws plus a rather heavy 4 jaw "engineers" type chuck.
I have two oneway chucks 3/4" x 16tpi  with a variety of jaw options including button jaws which I would love to be able to use, but I have been unable to find a reducer.
Can anyone out there help & make me a happy turner.
The oneway chucks have a "taperloc" type insert that can be changed for a variety of threads but the largest is 11/4"

Good morning Joanas
I had a similar question at the end of last year from a guy called John, there is a shop called Covacs in Ellistown Leicestershire who are able to make them, I'm unsure of what the cost was but for comparison I had a LH Thread for my compound mitre saw made as I couldn't get one anywhere and they charged me £10 to make 2 (I wanted a spare lol).
Please let me know if I'm able to assist you further.
Kindest Regards
Ryan

I use a Union graduate lathe with Axminster chucks(not Evolution) and Oneway chucks. I have 3 thread sizwz to contend with, 1 1/4" x6, 1"x8 and 3/4" x 16 and I managed to get thread adaptors for all of them from Axminster power tools. Talk to their technical department.

John
I contacted Sam Turner "Specialist Advisor" at Axminster only to be told that they do not sell a thread adapter for 1.5" x 6tpi. & could not help.
Thank you very much for your response

Ryan
Thanks for your help also. I will be contacting Covacs tomorrow after the Axminster disappointment.

Thank you both once again for taking the time to respond.

Kind regards

Jonas

Ian I do not wish to criticise and it may be unfounded(in which case please accept my sincere apologies) but the register face on the LH adaptor appears to have a step in it, these faces must meet true and flat and tight or you will get chuck wobble, I expect you know that. but just in case..... ;)

I think its just a trick of the light the face for register is flat and true
I've been making adapters for years for my graduates and others machines

I thought that would be the case but as the H&S man I thought I would check anyway. Apologies.
