Loss / damage / liability insurance
« on: August 18, 2016, 03:33:49 PM »
I appreciate that the AWGB does not get involved with insurance matters but perhaps some individuals could advise ?

I have just brought an Axi AT14-16 lathe plus a TV to mount over it ( long story ) and a table/stand, The object is to take it out and about for demonstrations etc. I am hoping to keep it in a locked room at the village hall where the club keeps all its stuff.

So I am asking about loss/damage insurance (£1000) and, I guess, a dollop of public liability insurance.

Any ideas who with ? cost etc ?

I have learnt the first rule of woodturning.
The internal diameter should never exceed the external width.
Nor the internal depth, the external height.
Does that make me an expert now ?

Public liability: artists network at http://www.a-n.co.uk.
Loss/damage: check your household insurance, may be included there.

I just took out a home insurance policy with the NFU, combined with their craft worker cover. It covers workshop contents in the workshop, up to £1000 of equipment away from the workshop, £2.5K stock cover and £2.5 million public liability. The only proviso is that earnings from your craft is less than £10K so ideal for hobbyists / part timers. Total cost of all the cover was just over half what my previous insurer (Tesco) quoted to renew my home contents / building cover and I don't have to pay for separate PLI either. I even have employers liability, even though I don't have any employees! ;-)

Thanks Fuzzy, I will take a look at that.

I think my house insurance probably needs updating so I will also look at the NFu, the crafters add on sounds good.
