Look what I found.
« on: December 21, 2016, 10:29:26 AM »
Spent yesterday keeping out of the way while Mo wrapped presents. Went into the workshop to start cleaning up and sorting out and found this. It's a lump of laburnum that Brian (Dragonfly) gave me that had got buried in a pile of other stuff. Be a nice project to start the new year out with. Certainly be interesting LOL:

I will be intrigued to see what you do with this  not just the outcome but the process as an experienced turner with it seems a particular interest in challenging timber.

The thought process in the planning stage and the final shape ( is it pre planned or how much does it evolve from the turning.

Will it be a single piece or more?

I recently tried turning the base/rootball of a neighbours plum tree that wasn't fruiting much , had left ir for about 18 months and reduced a 14" diameter piece to about 8" by the time I had finished partly cos didn't choose the optimum axis to start with.

Challenging pieces are so tempting.

Enjoy the project

Phil

You've put yourself on the spot a bit, there, Pete....we shall all be waiting with bated breath.

I'll see what I can do regarding a progress work. Haven't got a clue what the end result will be though one or two ideas have come to mind, with things like this it could well be shavings and bits. Get Christmas over and see what happens.

Pete, I have been meaning to ask what you'[d done with that awful bit of wood. Now you've posted it, you'll have to show the finished article!

Have a great Christmas.

(Les, how'd that bit of quilted Ash I gave you?)
