Kobra hollower ......... well my version of it
« on: May 01, 2016, 04:00:36 AM »
This is a project I have had on the back burner so to speak for a long time. Slowly getting it together  and now it very nearly complete.
An articulated hollower arm made out of 6063 Aluminium with a high tensile bar that can be adjusted for length. It has also a provision for a laser head although its not complete as yet.
It has been designed for my larger lathe as the arm swing is over 650mm with the bar around 500mm along with a articulated tool head.

That's rather impressive, Hughie. I'm not into engineering, but I can imagine that the tolerances you work to must be very close indeed to eliminate vibration and slack with all those articulated joints.

Les
Education is important, but wood turning is importanter.

Hughie,

I take it that's your lightweight hollower!

Les yes I had to ream all the holes one by one for accuracy. The 6063 is tough stuff so it should do ok, just have to make the pins for each joint now.

Lol, I used the 6063 as its high tensile, strong yet light. The arm will swing with minimal effort and it cam into being due to a smaller one of have of a more conventional design but made out of steel for the smaller lathe and the darn thing is heavy and a bit awkward.
