Well, made a start on my musing Idea for the big hunk of tree, dragged it into the workshop, somehoe got up onto the lathe bed(getting weak in my old age haha),once up there, saw the first problem,it was cut at an angle,so had to make some wedges to go under the faceplate(will have to take some more pics of them as I forgot to do that),made the first one,put the faceplate on it with a corresponding wedge in other direction to even it up for drilling, job done, drilled log and screwed it on with 75 by 6 mm coach bolts, put it on the spindle nose, guess what, the tailend didn`t line up,so turned it sio the out of line way was at the top, then undid some of the bolts till it lined up with the live tailcentre the way I wanted it and made more wedges to fill the gaps between the coachbolts,re-tightened coachbolts and drove tailcentre iton the other end to take the weight, then had to use an anglegrinder with a wood cutting blade in to take off some of the bits sticking out to far,and bearing in mind my jet lathe has a 20" swing you can tell just how big this is,its now at the rough turned outside, will refine then hollow the cup and the base,or make it a big tazza shaped vase, not decided yet which to do,cheers, Eric.
