Large turnings
« on: September 29, 2015, 04:10:22 PM »
Every now and then I see some large turning and while it is not something I do, it is always a joy to see how others work. Came across this web site and found some of the working methods and scale interesting. I especially thought of Pete when I saw the goblets an I now understand why his buyer gets them from him, the ones in America are too big  :) :) :) :)

click through the large picture in the 'About us' page to see a piece on the lathe.

Must admit I haven't made one that big. Largest so far held a litre. If someone wanted to pay $5000 for one mind I'd be happy to have a go.

Frans Brown does some of the larger turnings I've seen in the UK. I've just checked his website to add a link but there seems to be nothing in the Gallery.

But I am at work, so it might be my very limited browser.

Are you sure those pics weren't just being modelled with very small people?  :P

Yep, but you don't have a Powermatic 3520 with a huge bed extension, or do you?
